Laboring to Take the "L" Out of the BLS
The Bureau of Labor Statistics is reporting that the September unemployment rate dropped from 8.2% to 7.8%. This occurred even though only a paltry 114, 000 jobs were estimated to have occurred during this period as figures for July and August have been revised upwards. Still the U-3 rate dropped below the magic 8.0% which will allow President Obama to trumpet this achievement in the last month of his re-election campaign.
But who believes those figures. There are good reasons to think that the figures are fudged for incumbent political gain.

October surprise?
ReplyDelete@Eunice No, October Surprises tend to be in foreign affairs. Look for action in the Maghreb to "avenge" Ambassador Steven's assassination. Also don't be surprised if Tehran claims that it will stop enriching uranium, until after the election.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is all a conspiracy. Get out your tin foil hats. Don't you think it would make more sense to release this info before now?
ReplyDeleteIf this is a conspiracy then W orchestrated 9/11. The BLS is known to be a shady entity up for political schenanigans.
@The Rebel Set--One need not wear a tin foil had nor see conspiracies everywhere to address facts. How can there be more jobs created in January 2012 than in September 2012 yet the unemployment rate drops 4/10%? Moreover, this is using the less reliable household survey.
ReplyDeleteBetter check your loose change. But thanks for sharing.
Disproved. Even Republicans are saying the numbers are true today.
ReplyDelete@TheRebelSet The entire article makes a detailed case. Your comment that Republicans OK the stats is inconsequential. Concisely convince readers that your viewpoint is worthy of credence. Tell why my interpretation is flawed.
ReplyDeleteI appreciate some dialogue with those who disagree as long as it is conducted civililly and advance the argument forward. Just saying (some) unnamed Republicans dispute this is a loosy-goosey argument from authority which is meaningless as there are no facts and just serves as tit-and-tat comments, which easily devolve to trolling.
